So by now you probably know that I am all about GREENS… so when I saw that there was a dandelion salad at Organic Avenue, it was in my shopping cart in 2.5 seconds. And yes, to clarify, I’m talking about the plant that your mom probably riped out of her rose garden and saw as an ugly looking thing. But let me tell you, it ain’t ugly for the body.

Dandelions rate in the top 4 green vegetables in terms of nutritional value. No brainer, eat the damn thing. 🙂

Here is what is also does: ”…prevent or cure liver diseases, such as hepatitis or jaundice; act as a tonic and gentle diuretic to purify your blood, cleanse your system, dissolve kidney stones, and otherwise improve gastro-intestinal health; assist in weight reduction; cleanse your skin and eliminate acne; improve your bowel function, working equally well to relieve both constipation and diarrhea; prevent or lower high blood pressure; prevent or cure anemia; lower your serum cholesterol by as much as half; eliminate or drastically reduce acid indigestion and gas buildup by cutting the heaviness of fatty foods; prevent or cure various forms of cancer; prevent or control diabetes mellitus; and, at the same time, have no negative side effects and selectively act on only what ails you,” (

The salad in the pics consists of chopped kale and dandelions in a cashew garlic dressing, topped with pine nuts and Himalayan yellow raisins.

What are some superfoods you should be eating? Well here are my faves…. algae, bee pollen, sprouts & young grasses, garlic, ginger, turmeric, maca, celery seed, acai, grape seeds, goji berries, mangosteen, amla, camu camu, aloe vera, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, clover, dandelion, chickweed, sorrel, purlsane, chicory, etc.

Superfoods are defined by the common characteristics below:

  • A whole food (organically grown if possible)
  • A raw food (retaining life forces, enzymes, and synergistic effects of plant components)
  • Easily digestible
  • Exceptionally nutritious, containing proportionally higher quantities of nutrients and other beneficial food attributes
  • A food rich in the following nutrients: vitamins, minerals, proteins, fatty acids, antioxidants and phytochemicals that strengthen the body’s immune system
  • A food that assists in the prevention and elimination of disease and premature aging
  • A food that promotes healthy elimination and presence of beneficial intestinal flora
  • An excellent permanent dietary/supplemental addition to daily intake
